Eduardo Kobra "The 27 Club", mural project of "Colors for Freedom".

Featured Artist: Eduardo Kobra "KOBRA"

Location: 36 Rivington St., New York, NY 10002

Type: Outdoor Mural.

Description: The Evolve Health + Wellness Center was seeking to make a beautiful mural on the outdoor wall of their building that was bombarded with the constant tagging and vandalism. However, the center wanted to bring with the displayed artwork the right message to the community of the Lower East Side.

This artwork is part of mural series "Colors for Freedom" painted by Eduardo Kobra in NYC and is inspired by the idea of the “27 Club”, a list of popular musicians who died at age 27. It depicts the faces of Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, and Amy Winehouse. The “club 27” has been repeatedly cited in music magazines, journals, and the daily press. Several exhibitions have been devoted to the idea, as well as novels, films, and stage plays.

This mural tribute to 5 talented musicians who died too early sending the message that the cost of the drug and alcohol overuse can cause people to lose everything even the life itself.
